Design and Copy writing

This illustration was created around the year in 2004 when we were starting to use the business name, TMCreation. It was recently rediscovered when organizing old data inside the PC. Now I cannot remember where the idea for this illustration came from, but I still like this design and it is one of my favorite artworks. I like the color coordination of this, but moreover, I simply like the whole atmosphere of it. I have always liked reflections in water since I was a child.

cityNow I would like to explain how copy writing and design are mutually interconnected by using this illustration.

“Our design will give light to your ideas.” means “Our design can convert your thought into something visible” as you can guess. Instead of directly using the written expression of what you want to say, you dare to use a physical image in the copy writing to express your ideas in different way. By doing so, it can create bit of depth in the copy writing compared to just using the original expression. And most importantly, for example in this case, if the copy writing goes onto the illustration like this design of dawn, people can relate the sunlight to “our design” so that “our design” is like the sunlight that clears up all the darkness to reveal the shape of the city.

This is our main approach to design when a creating customer’s original design, a customer knows the design they want and if so, the answer to the best design resides in the customer’s mind, but the knowing doesn’t mean they can visualize it. It still remains in the state of only an idea or concept. In short, it’s just matter of visualizing it. Sometimes it is easy to express things with abstract words, yet it’s not easy to make it visible. That is where we, the designers, can play an important role.

Designers can visualize an expression which doesn’t have any shape. There are buildings out there but they cannot be seen because it is dark outside. But once there is a light, the shapes of buildings become visible. In that sense the light is “our design” and the buildings are replaced with the words “your idea”.  After combining those leads to “Our design will give light to your ideas”.
